Our actions bring about evidence that will guide our actions. What we choose to do today places us in a position to gain experiences that will prompt our minds to do tomorrow.
Are we choosing to experience Godly actions today?
James 1:22 NKJV But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
1 John 3:10 NKJV In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.
Although uncomfortable to face our sin it is absolutely necessary in order to make corrections. We are called to make corrections within our thought life.
2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Discernment is a skill that can be developed through experience. Being told we are wrong is one thing, but being shown we are wrong is quite another. We ought to see where we are mistaken in our faith and beliefs (we all sin so we have errors) and then see how we can improve. If we do not look intently at our errors and the solution we may not grow. (see James 1:23-25)
We can read all the books on sunsets and listen to countless stories about them, but it is not until we experience one that we can really understand. This too with God. Let's look deep into our faith/belief/understanding and how to improve it.
All schools lead students toward experience including seminary. The lowest level of learning is what fits into "Passive Learning." Passive Learning essentially is sitting and reading or listening. Sermons, videos, and books used without discussion are all forms of passive learning. The next level would involve some evaluation of the information, testing, presentations on the information etc. Yet all this pales in comparison to experience. We must take more experiential action to know God the way God commanded us - "all heart, all mind, all strength, and all soul." We are not only to know God, but to love God. Love is a verb which means experience.
